“We shall have no better conditions in the future if we are satisfied with all those which we have at present.” -Thomas Edison
I try to live my life with these few things in mind. I wanted to pass them on in hopes that you will incorporate them into yours as well…
Live your life with an open mind. Try to consider new ideas, different viewpoints, and criticize less.
It is crucial to be open to what others think and feel and respect those feelings and thoughts. Their views are just as important as yours and it fascinates me how one single situation or object can be seen in so many different ways. Practicing having an open mind will expand your knowledge and you will learn from everyone (especially when you disagree because then you will be more motivated to find the “right” answers). This is also referred to as open-mindedness.
Care about others.
Build personal connections with other human beings. We are not on this Earth alone, therefore we must all learn how to interact with one another and at the least respect one another. Talk to strangers, they just may have more insight than you would ever think. Lend a helping hand to those who need it. Give advice when you think it is best appropriate. Become an effective listener and know what that means. Be someone others want to talk to.
Follow your intuition.
Don’t be afraid to think outside the box, be a nonconformist, and say “no.” Take risks in your life; for if you don’t, you’re not really living. Make mistakes and be able to learn from them. Understand that no one is perfect.
Be honest and have integrity.
Be honest with yourself, even if it is the hardest thing to do. Stay grounded, and set high morals and standards. People that expect more of themselves usually accomplish greater things. A professor once said to me that character is all you have in life, so make yours appealing to others. Let the motivation behind your actions be driven by ethical behaviors.
